What People Say
You really captivated the audience last night, at the Rock Creek Gallery, with your lyrical voice and manner–an audience of grown-ups, I might add, who didn’t come expecting folktales!
– Anne Lane Sheldon
We were fortunate to have Jane Dorfman as a featured teller at the Glens of Antrim Festival in Northern Ireland in 2022.
Jane is an experienced teller whose calm manner and professional approach to storytelling would enhance any gathering. She is a master of the folktales and has a wide repertoire of stories to suit adult audiences and also has a ranger of tales which would appeal to younger listeners. Her performances at our festival enthralled her listeners as well as her fellow performers.
Jane has an ability to paint pictures in the minds of her listeners. Her voice is melodious and easy to listen to and she engages the audiences both in person and on the many online sessions which I have been part of. Her use of camera and lighting is excellent when online, unlike many other tellers.
It is a lucky listener who gets the opportunity to hear Jane share her tales.
- Liz Weir, Director, Glen Storytelling Festival, Northern Ireland
I have performed beside and worked with Jane Dorfman for a dozen years. I have gotten to hear a wide variety of stories from her over the years - true stories, lies, ghost stories, historical characters, etc. I have enjoyed her wry sense of humor, and the depth she brings to her storytelling. It is clear she knows how to lure the audience in and keep their rapt attention as she spins her tales around them. Jane telling stories is a sight to behold, and be beholden by.
- Jessica Piscitelli Robinson, Executive Director of Better Said Than Done and Life is Better in the Telling
The Children were delighted with the stories that she told them and we enjoyed the quiet, effective manner in which she presented her stories. She has a way of mesmerizing her audience and immersing them in the tales.”
– Quinby Frank, Librarian, Green Hedges School
Ms. Dorfman’s storytelling was a tremendous hit at Mark Twain. The students were so enthralled we invited her back a second time. Ms. Dorfman had the entire room spellbound by her tales-not an easy task with middle school students.
– Sherry Weiss, Media Specialist, Mark Twain School
Jane Dorfman's storytelling countenance is quiet and surprising. She slyly draws you into the enchanted worlds of Arabian Nights, or the tall-tale Western world of Calamity Jane, or Celtic myth. And you never see it coming.
She can even animate life into a cut-off braid of Willy Nelson's, and it's perfectly believable and hilarious.
Because you don't see it coming.
And you'll be saying, "How did she do that?"
Even her personal stories bring you into exotic, true, and completely magical worlds.
And you never see it coming.
And therein lies the storytelling hocus-pocus of Jane Dorfman.
-Andy Offutt Irwin, storyteller
